Riot death: 62 acquitted in PTI activist killing

Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Judge Raja Parvaiz Akhtar on Friday acquitted 62 men accused of the killing of a Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf activist.

State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali, Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan and DCO Noorul Amin Mengal, among others, had been nominated in the FIR moved by brother of the deceased. PTI activist Haq Nawaz had been shot dead during a rally near Novelty Bridge on December 8, 2014.


Samanabad police had registered the FIR under Sections 302, 148, 149 and 324 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA). Nearly 300 people had been nominated in the FIR.



Police had submitted challan of the case before the ATC. However, during the trial, plaintiff Ata Muhammad withdrew his complaint.


The judge then acquitted 62 people and adjourned hearing till February 16 when the judge will decide the other accused.
