The Environmental Protection Department, the Planning and Development (P&D) Department and the Leadership for Environment and Development (LEAD) have signed an MoU for the implementation of the climate change policy.
Under the agreement, information will be collected from various government departments on climatic variations and their impact across the province. All parties have agreed to highlight the contribution of Pakistan, especially the Punjab to global greenhouse gas (GHGs) emissions… and suggesting ways to reduce them with a focus on incorporating them in the provincial climate change policy.
The MoU will help identify relevant stakeholders, including provincial departments, civil society organisations and academic and research institutions which could play a part in climate change mitigation and adaptation.
It will help address issues such as disaster preparedness, capacity building, institutional strengthening and technology transfer to steer the province towards climate resilient development.
