Much-awaited ‘Banjo’ set into motion
Riteish Deshmukh, Nargis Fakhri spill the beans on upcoming film
MUMBAI:
Bollywood actor Riteish Deshmukh has begun filming for Ravi Jadhav’s next venture Banjo, to be released later this year. Ironically though, the actor revealed that the shooting was originally supposed to begin in October last year but had to be delayed to allow Deshmukh’s hair to grow. “It was Ravi’s wish to do something different with my look,” said Riteish at the press conference for the movie. “The character I play stays in a slum and has a unique style. So Krishika Lulla insisted that I grow my hair longer,” he added.
The 37-year-old went on to share how excited he is to be playing a part that is so different. “I am really excited to do Banjo as it is quite unique. Every day, when I come, I feel the eagerness to work. It keeps me feeling alive on the set,” he said. Deshmukh also revealed that he had learnt Hawaiian guitar during his childhood and knows how to play the banjo in real life.
Banjo also stars Bollywood beauty Nargis Fakhri who, according to Deshmukh, is tailor-made for the role. “Nargis fits the role perfectly and is doing a brilliant job,” he claimed. “She plays the role of a young woman visiting India from the US and perfect for the character, thanks to her genuine accent.”
Fakhri was also shared her excitement for Banjo, as well as for the chance it gave her to dabble into Maharashtrian culture. “It makes me really happy to learn about Maharashtrian food, music. For me, this entire film, the people working on it and where we are at … all of it is amazing,” said the actor, adding that she had never in the past been to the kind of places they were shooting at. The 36-year-old was all praises for her character as it reminds her of her initial days in Mumbai. “I play an NRI from the US and identify with her very much. I totally understand the issues she goes through. I feel very close to her and it has been a lot fun remembering all the things that happened to me when I first arrived here,” shared Fakhri.
Banjo marks Jadhav’s Hindi film debut. The film follows banjo players from Maharashtra and how their craft is losing relevance in the modern world. Before this, the Marathi film-maker has made popular films such as Natarang, Balak-Palak and Timepass.
“When I first heard the story, I thought it was one of those that touch your heart and you feel so much for it. I’m super happy to be a part of the film and of course with Deshmukh. He is a fantastic actor and a fantastic human being who is very important to me,” Fakhri added. The actors have previously worked together on Housefull 3.
The film’s music has been composed by Vishal-Shekhar while Amitabh Bhattacharya has penned the lyrics. It also stars actor Luke Kenny, who played one of the four key characters in the 2008 film, Rock On!!.
