Kidnapping for ransom: ATC remands former SHO and accomplice

Abbas is the second on-duty police officer to be held on kidnapping charges this year

KARACHI:
An anti-terrorism court remanded on Thursday a former SHO and his accomplice in a case pertaining to kidnapping. Former Mubina Town SHO, Zafar Abbas, and his associate, Manzoor Shah, were presented before Justice Farooq Shah. The investigating officer told the judge that the suspects were involved in kidnapping of a transporter. According to the prosecution, the suspects abducted Abdul Raheem from Malir in December last year and collected Rs6.8 million for his release. So far, Rs1 million have been recovered from the suspects, while the remaining amount has yet to be collected from the suspects who have gone into hiding. Justice Shah sent the suspect into police custody on two-week physical remand, seeking a progress report at the next hearing. Abbas is the second on-duty police officer to be held on kidnapping charges this year.
