Noise pollution: Traffic police bulldoze 4,000 pressure horns

Police on Saturday bulldoze illegal pressure horns seized in recent operations.

ISLAMABAD:
In a bid to curb noise pollution, Islamabad Traffic Police impounded over 4,000 pressure horns from vehicles in the last six months, said SSP Traffic Moeen Masood on Saturday.

Speaking to a group of journalists at the ceremony of bulldozing the confiscated pressure horns, the SSP said the traffic police was striving to make the capital “noise-free”.

Police has constituted a special squad to check the noise pollution, which takes action against installation of pressure horn, extra seats and curtains in Public Service Vehicles (PSVs).

The SSP Traffic said that to make the capital noise free city, strict action would be taken against pressure horns users.

He said a special squad including officials of ITP and Ministry of Environment were conducting regular checking and fining vehicles involved in creating such pollution.

Masood directed police personnel to ensure implementation of traffic laws in letter and spirit and educate the citizens about hazards of noise pollution.

“ITP has also engaged students of various schools and colleges to create awareness among the citizens on curtailing noise pollution,” he added.
