LANDI KOTAL: At least 187 personnel have been inducted in the levies force in Khyber Agency. The new recruitments were finalised on Thursday.

An insider familiar with the matter told The Express Tribune six women were among the personnel recruited in
the force.  “This is the first time women have been inducted into the force in the tribal belt,” he said. “The six women belong to various parts of Khyber Agency.”

According to the insider, only 187 personnel were selected from 3,331 applicants who hailed from Landikotal, Jamrud and Bara. The recruitment process was completed under the supervision of the Frontier Corps, FATA Secretariat, the political administration and the security forces.

The recruitment in personnel had been pending for a long time. In the past, the political administration had inducted a large number of personnel. However, the recruitment process was declared void amid allegations of nepotism and irregularities.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, Nasir Khan, an official of the political administration, said the new recruits were inducted through a transparent process and will seek to strengthen the levies force.

“The levies force will ensure law and order in the agency and provide jobs for locals,” he added.
