RAWALPINDI:

Police are yet to file a challan against a suspect believed to be involved in the attack on slain Punjab Home Minister Shuja Khanzada more than four months after he was arrested.

Special Judicial Magistrate Shahid Hameed Chaudhary on Tuesday expressed annoyance at police failure to produce the challan against Qasim Muawia, who was arrested by the counter-terrorism department (CTD) of the Punjab Police in September last year. A court had remanded Muawia into CTD custody on September 29.

The court has extended Muawia’s judicial remand till February 9. Police have told the court that the challan will be produced at the next hearing.

In the challan, the police have declared Qari Sohail, an absconder, mastermind of the attack while Muawia has been described as a facilitator. Khanzada and 19 others had been killed in a suicide blast on August 16, 2015, at his political office in Shadi Khan, near Attock.
