KARACHI:
Pakistan Railway police demolished on Saturday illegally constructed houses, shops and animal farms in Drigh Colony near Sharae Faisal.
Angry residents of Drigh Colony tried to force the team to suspend their operation. "We did face resistance from the encroachers, but still [we] got the land vacated," said the Pakistan Railways division officer Muhammad Nasir. He added that no alternative space will be provided to the residents, as they were all encroachers.
According to Nasir, the encroached land was about 2,000 square-yards and was worth millions of rupees.
To save the land from getting encroached in the future, Nasir said that they have already started constructing a boundary wall and will keep the land under their vigilance.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Railways property and land deputy director Haji Khan said that the land was part of the Karachi Circular Railway. He added that there were two plots which were simultaneously encroached for the last five years.
