ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Wednesday remanded three ‘facilitators’ into police custody in connection with the F-8 Katcheri attack case.

ATC-II judge Sohail Ikram granted 12-day physical custody of Jan Muhammad alias Zain, Abdul Ghafoor alias Ahmed, and Qamar Zaman alias Malang, till February 8.

The men had allegedly facilitated the attackers.

In March 2014, armed men had stuck the court compound in Islamabad’s Sector F-8 in a gun-and-bomb attack killing at least 11 people, including an additional sessions judge, and leaving over two dozen others injured.

The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), Peshawar had arrested the alleged facilitators a few months back but the Islamabad Police only recently took custody of them after repeated reminders from the CTD.

The delay in obtaining custody irked the Islamabad District Bar Association so much so that members moved a district court against police high-ups, seeking appropriate directions for the IG, SSP and the Margalla SHO.

The applicants had maintained that the CTD in collaboration with the Intelligence Bureau arrested the suspects a few months ago and the Islamabad police chief and the DIG were sent several reminders by the CTD to take custody of the suspects, but no efforts were being made to bring them to Islamabad. The lawyers wanted the cops prosecuted for not being responsive.

The suspects had been arrested in another case, during the probe of which, they confessed to their involvement in the F-8 Katcheri attack.
