Swine flu: Official downplays outbreak rumours

Dr Umer said that the virus spreads because of seasonal flu and changing weather

RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Medical College Principal Dr Muhammad Umar on Wednesday rejected reports about swine flu outbreak in the district saying it was seasonal influenza virus H1N1 affecting the people these days. “Both the World Health Organisation and Pakistani medical experts have declared after through research and study that it was the seasonal influenza and not swine flu,” Dr Umer said at a press conference held at the Holy Family Hospital. He said that the virus spreads because of seasonal flu and changing weather. “Of the four, three patients died of seasonal influenza virus H1N1 in the district so far, a committee also verified the presence of the virus in the deceased patients,” he said. Focal person for infectious diseases Dr Javed Hayyat and senior doctors were also present.
