Punjab govt yet to start Saima Aziz inquiry

MPA says she too is waiting to hear from the ACE.

LAHORE:
The Punjab government is yet to start an inquiry against Saima Aziz, an MPA, accused of illegally occupying public land for private use.

It has been more than a month since the provincial law minister had vowed, on television, to take action against the MPA if the charges were proven.

According to sources, Anti Corruption Establishment (ACE) director general’s request (DG) for permission to arrest the accused MPA is still pending with the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.

The MPA, who had filed an application with the ACE DG requesting for a re-investigation of the case, is also waiting for ACE to summon her so she can record her statement. Aziz, while talking to The Express Tribune, said, “I was informed by the DG that I would be called for my statement on DEcemeber 14, 2010 but that did not happen. I have submitted papers that prove that I am innocent to the DG.”

According to the senior official the DG has not sent a summary for re-investigating the case to the chief minister for approval.

The Anti Corruption Establishment had nominated Saima Aziz along with six others in the case on charges of criminal breach of trust by a public servant, cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property, forgery for purpose of cheating and using as genuine a forged document.
