KARACHI: The police found an infant alone in a house in Saeedabad on Thursday. The girl, who was six days old when kidnapped, was found when the police raided the house after receiving a tip-off. No one but the baby girl was in the house.

The girl was kidnapped on January 1 from her house in Orangi. According to the infant’s father, Aslam, three men and a woman - the woman and one man was armed - broke into his house and at gunpoint, asked him and his wife for their newborn daughter. Aslam said he offered them cash and jewellery but they insisted on him handing over the infant.

After the incident, the couple had filed an FIR at the Pakistan Bazaar police station, No. 01/11, against unidentified suspects. Aslam, a worker in a soap factory, had said the kidnappers made no contact with them for ransom.

However, after the girl was recovered on Thursday, the parents refused to talk to the media. Meanwhile, according to the police, the case is a domestic matter. The kidnapped baby was Aslam’s seventh daughter and police officials suspect the case could be feigned. Interrogations, however, are under way.
