KARACHI: Arieb Azhar made his mark in the music industry with his mesmerising voice and commanding choral in the song, “Husn-i- Haqiqi.”

The song was a captivating rendition version of Khawaja Ghulam Farid’s original, “Husn-i-Haqiqi”, Azhar delivered the song nothing short of perfection in the Coke Studio sessions. The singer is known for his Sufi and Folk roots in music and has won global acclaim for his music.

“True music is the union between the individual and the universe; a release, rapture, celebration, quest, lament of the human spirit. If I am able to touch that in moments of my life, I consider myself fortunate, “said Azhar.

Having spent 13 years in Croatia, Azhar returned to Pakistan in 2004 and while his exposure to Balkan and gypsy music shaped his early development, he has now immersed himself in local music completely, nurturing a love for Sufi poets and the humanist tradition. Arieb’s first album, Wajj, includes the immortal lyrics of Bhulleh Shah, Khwaja Ghulam Farid and Mian Mohammad Baksh.

Azhar’s music and unique vocal style came to the limelight in the course of his involvement with Coke Studio in seasons two and three. The singer is currently finishing his next album, which is set to include well-known poets of the sub-continent and will also incorporate contemporary poets such as Sheikh Ayaz, Arshed Bhatti and Akhtar Qayum.

The singer now prepares to launch his first solo video for the song, “Mere Des”, the  video is said to be directed by Shahbaz Sumor in collaboration with Basement Films. “Mere Des” is a patriotic lullaby written by Arshed Bhatti and produced by Faisal Rafi as the first single from the new album.

The video features Maheen Khan, Shehnaz Ismail, Jabbar Gul, Yousaf Bashir, Qureshi, Faiza Ahmed and Arieb Azhar as artisans who take part in a collective art installation. PR
