PESHAWAR:
Civil society representatives organised a candlelight vigil and walk at Farooq Azam Chowk in Charsadda Wednesday evening to honour students and faculty members who lost their lives in the attack at Bacha Khan University.

In a statement issued, representatives of civil society and Taleemi Dharna, an organisation borne in the wake of the Army Public School attack in December 2014, strongly condemned the tragic attack. They offered their condolences and stood in solidarity with innocent students and teachers of Bacha Khan University.

The vigil was also attended by people of all walks of life. Participants held placards inscribed with the importance of education in defeating militant ideology.

“We solemnly vow to stand up against violence and extremism in the country,” said Taimur Kamal of Pakhtunkhwa Civil Society Network. He added extended full support to bereaved families and demanded government to eradicate this militancy.

“The government has to fulfil its responsibility of protecting citizens, students,” said Shafiq Gigyani. Participants flayed the government for its failure to provide protection to the people. They said the nation barely registered that one year had passed since the APS Peshawar attack when the enemy killed so many innocent students in Charsadda.
