LAHORE:
A Lahore High Court division bench on Tuesday issued summons for former State Minister Siddique Kanju’s son Mutafa Kanju and others accused of shooting and killing a teenager following a road accident near Cavalry Ground.

The South Cantonment police were directed to produce the suspects before the court on the next hearing on February 3.

Earlier, the prosecution requested that ex-parte proceedings be initiated against the suspects for their failure to appear before the court for a scheduled hearing. The court observed that action would be taken against the suspects if they fail to appear for the next hearing. Neither Kanju nor his counsel was present in the court on Tuesday.

On December 30, the bench had admitted for regular hearing the provincial government’s appeal against Kanju’s acquittal from an anti-terrorism court.

In his appeal, Prosecutor General Ehtesham Qadir Shah (AGP) had submitted that the ATC did not adequately examine the facts before passing the acquittal order. The FIR had stated that Kanju and his guards shot and killed Zain Ahmed, a passerby, following an accident involving their car near Cavalry Ground.
