PML-N gets two-thirds majority in Faisalabad

Sanaullah says winning top slots on local bodies will be a breeze

FAISALABAD: Weeks prior to the local government elections for reserved seats, 78 chairmen elected as independents from various union councils in Faisalabad district have announced that their decision to join the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz. The announcement was made at a welcome ceremony organised by the PML-N on Sunday.

Law Minister Rana Sanaullah was the chief guest at the event. He said previously, the PML-N had 68 chairmen’s seats in Faisalabad district. “Now we have 146.”

The 78 chairmen who have joined the PML-N have helped us get two-third majority in the district local government. “Winning the top slots on the district council will now be a breeze.” Sanaullah said that the number of seats of deputy mayor, vice chairmen and reserved seats had been increased. Now eight deputy mayors will be elected from the municipal corporation and six vice chairmen will be elected from the district council. Similarly, nine seats each will be reserved for farmers and technocrats and five seats will be reserved for minorities on the district council. Eight technocrats and five representatives of religious minorities would be elected to the municipal corporation. He said elections for reserved seats will start on February 8 and will go on till February 14 after which the mayor of the municipal corporation and chairman of the district council will be elected. Parliamentarians Mian Farooq, Rajab Ali Khan Baloch, Asim Nazir, Azad Ali Tabassum, Arif Mehmood Gill, Rana Shoaib Idrees, Zafar Iqbal Nagra, Mian Ajmal Asif, Rae Usman Kharl, Jaffar Ali Hocha, Rae Haidar Ali Kharl and Afzal Sahi also spoke on the occasion.
