PESHAWAR:
United States Consul General in Peshawar William J Martin and Chief Minister Pervez Khattak unveiled a plaque at the provincial assembly on Monday to launch the US-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Energy (USPCAS-E).

According to a statement issued by the US Consulate, the facility will be housed at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar.

The mission of USPCAS-E is to produce technical experts and facilitate applied research as well as finding practical solutions to Pakistan’s energy challenges. The new facility will provide scholarships to 250 Pakistani students from economically disadvantaged families, the statement said. It will also implement 50 research projects, provide internships to 50 students, and establish five public-private partnerships to produce, store and manage electricity.

“This initiative will bring scientists from Pakistan and the US together and help jointly combat Pakistan’s energy challenges,” the statement quoted Martin as saying. It added Martin expected the centre to foster better collaboration among academia, industry and the public sector.

This five-year, $15 million initiative, funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID), has enabled UET Peshawar to partner with National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) in the federal capital and Arizona State University in the United States.
