Karisma Kapoor's husband accuses her of marrying him for money

Kapoors? Gold diggers? Randhir Kapoor doesn't think so

It’s no news that Karisma Kapoor and her husband, Sunjay Kapoor, are not on good terms, but it appears that their rocky relationship has taken another sharp turn.

Following Karisma’s decision to withdraw her consent from the divorce petition a month ago, Sunjay has filed a new petition accusing his wife of marrying him for money!

Sunjay, a wealthy industrialist, claims that their marriage was unsuccessful because Karisma married him "in a calculated and clinical manner". He also said she married him as a ‘rebound’ after her split with then-fiancé Abhishek Bachchan in 2003, reports Mumbai Mirror.

The petition further stated, “The respondent [Karisma] has failed not only as a wife and daughter-in-law, but also as a mother.” This time the divorce petition focuses on the custody of the couple's children.



Sunjay said this was because Karisma used their two kids, Samaira and Kiaan, as 'pawns' to claim more money from his family and didn’t let the kids meet his father even when he was dying. In his words, she “cruelly deprived” the man from his grandchildren and he died “pining for them”.

Following the petition, Karisma's father Randhir Kapoor expressed fury over the matter. In an interview with the Hindustan Times the veteran actor said, "Everyone knows our ­credentials. We are Kapoors. We don’t need to run after anyone’s money. We have been blessed with not only money, but our talent can support us for the rest of our lives."

But Sunjay addressed other matters in the petition. Karisma was made the sole trustee for a trust fund that was set up for their children, but she refused to be liable for appropriate use of the funds.



“She further insisted that her successor would be her sister, Kareena Kapoor, to the exclusion of the petitioner and his side. Such terms ruled out the possibility of handing over the trust to the respondent,” Mumbai Mirror quoted the petition as saying.

The petition also claims Karisma chose her career over her husband and used her PR to ruin his image, portraying him as a cheat, an alcoholic and a substance abuser. She apparently also refused to return to Delhi despite his numerous pleas.

Regarding the couple's marriage, Randhir Kapoor further revealed that he never wanted his daughter to marry the businessman in the first place.

"Sunjay is a third class man. I never wanted Karisma marrying him. He has debauchery in his ­system and never cared for his wife. He has been giving bull*** to her, and living with another woman. The entire Delhi knows how he is," HT quoted him as saying.

Karisma’s lawyer, Kranti Sathe’s claim is that all these accusations are false. “We will tell the court that he is causing great harm to the children's welfare by spreading false stories. We don't want a trial by media,” she said.



The couple who wed in 2003 filed for divorce in 2014 after mutual consent following years of relationship trouble and separation since 2010.
