ISLAMABAD:
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has asked US investors to play their role in informing the American lawmakers about the importance of providing preferential market access to Pakistani goods.

Speaking with a delegation of the US-Pakistan Business Council (USPBC) at the PM House on Thursday, the premier hoped the council would continue to play an active role in sharing with the larger US business community their positive experience of investing in Pakistan.

Pakistan has shut market access routes for itself

He also invited the US investors to take advantage of lucrative business opportunities in Pakistan and play their part in strengthening the robust Pak-US relationship. “Pakistan has one of the most attractive investment regimes in the world, allowing foreign investors 100% repatriation of profits and easy convertibility into foreign exchange,” he said, highlighting numerous investment opportunities in different sectors.

He expressed confidence the visit of USPBC delegation to Pakistan would go a long way towards exploring and creating excellent avenues for trade and investment between US and Pakistan.

He told the delegation that Pakistan greatly improved its internal security situation, and achieved effective governance and public service delivery, resulting in robust macro-economic indicators.

“We have seen a marked improvement in the internal security situation, with the current year witnessing the lowest number of terrorist attacks since 2007,” he said. “We have to eliminate terrorism forever.”

Premier Nawaz said the Pakistani nation was on course to realising its true potential as a democratic country with strong institutions and a vibrant economy.

He said the private sector was the engine of economic growth and foreign investment was a necessary catalyst for creating more economic opportunities. “My government is committed to providing an enabling environment, sustained by institutional structures allowing the private sector to flourish.”

Referring to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, PM Nawaz said the project was a mark of the world’s growing confidence in Pakistan and its future potential. “This programme will spur regional, economic integration and bring prosperity to the entire region and beyond.”

He added the US remained one of the most important economic and trading partners of Pakistan, as leading American companies invest billions of dollars in the country. “The future promises to be even better,” he said.

The 14-member visiting delegation comprised USPBC Chairman Miles Young, President Esprenza Jelalian along with several businessmen, executives, investors and industry leaders.
