Newly-elected members of municipal corporations, municipal committees, town committees, district councils and union councils took oath of office on Thursday throughout the rest of Sindh, including Sukkur, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Nawabshah Ghotki, Shikarpur, Khairpur, Kashmore-Kandhkot, Jacobabad, Larkana, Naushero Feroz, Kamber-Shahdadkot and Dadu.
In Sukkur, members of the municipal corporation, municipal committees, town committees, district council and union councils gathered at the district and sessions court to take oath. A large contingent of the local bodies’ representatives, accompanied by a musical band, marched their way to the court, where judges administered oath to them.
In Hyderabad, 92 chairmen, as many vice-chairmen, and 377 ward councilors of the union committees of Hyderabad Municipal Corporation took the oath. However, unlike Karachi, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, which bagged 78 slots of chairmen and vice-chairmen in Hyderabad, has still not announced a candidate for the slot of mayor and deputy mayor of the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
Twenty six representatives from Qasimabad Municipal Committee, which is likely to elect the brother of Sindh local government minister Jam Khan Shoro as chairperson, also took oath at a separate event. In Ghotki, members took oath of office at the district council hall in the premises of the deputy commissioner’s office. In Khairpur, members gathered at the Sachal Auditorium, where judges administered oath to them. In Shikarpur, the ceremony took place at the district council hall. In Larkana, some of the newly-elected members took oath at the Sir Shahnawaz Library, while others at the district and sessions court. In Jacobabad, the ceremony took place at the town hall.
As many as 302 local councillors in Mirpurkhas, 257 in Matiari, 312 in Thatta, 254 in Badin, 252 in Umerkot, 446 in Nawabshah, 46 in Tharparkar, 181 in Tando Allahyar and 200 in Jamshoro took the oath. The ceremonies were presided by sessions judges and senior civil judges.
