SWAT: An Indian girl who recently married a Pakistani man after becoming friends with him on Facebook has her visa expired, and has now pinned hopes on the government to prolong her stay.

The 22-year-old Mehrunisa arrived in Pakistan two months ago after marrying 24-year-old Ijaz Khan, resident of Swat's Kalam valley and now fears returning home.

Mehrunisa says she fears a reaction from her family for eloping, as well as threats from anti-Pakistan groups in India for marrying a Pakistani man.

Man seeks Pakistani nationality for Indian wife

The couple applied for a visa with the Ministry of Interior but their application is pending for a month.

Owing to the situation, the couple appealed extension in visa besides financial assistance from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Parvez Khattak.

Ijaz on December 21, 2015 had also appealed the government to grant her wife Pakistani nationality so she could permanently reside in the country..

IBN E ASHFAQUE | 8 years ago | Reply If a Pakistani national marries an Indian citizen he or her can ask Pakistani nationality for his/her spouse. My uncle married an Indian citizen and she was granted Pakistani nationality as per routine procedure......many years ago.
