LAHORE:

An additional district and sessions judge on Monday disposed of a petition seeking registration of a case against the Union Council 186 vice chairman for demolishing the boundary wall of a shrine with help from Aziz Bhatti Town authorities.

Sufi Muhammad Riaz, the caretaker of Pir Sufi Hameedullah’s shrine, had submitted that he had been arranging the urs of Pir Sufi Hameedullah at Miani Sharif graveyard every year. He said that this time Vice Chairman Muhammad Raamzan Gujjar had asked him to pay Rs500,000 to hold the annual celebrations. He said he had refused to pay Gujjar the money and still arranged the urs. He said that on December 8 last year, Gujjar along with the Aziz Bhatti Town revenue officer and 30 other armed men had “attacked” the shrine and demolished its boundary wall. He said the land where the shrine was located was not owned by the city government, It was owned by the Evacuee Trust Property Board, he said. He accused the town officer of misusing his powers. Riaz said he had requested the Mustafabad SHO to take against them but he had done nothing in this regard. The SHO told the court that the petitioner wanted to construct a wall around the land meant for graves. The officer said no one had attacked the shrine. The court disposed of the petition telling the petitioner to seek the right forum for relief.
