LAHORE:

Dozens of people staged a demonstration on Ferozpur Road in front of the Lahore General Hospital on Sunday to protest the killing of a daily wager in a shooting incident at Kahna Phatak Mandi.

They put the corpse of the worker identified as Muhammad Javed on the road and blocked it for traffic, including the metro bus service, for several hours.

A police contingent then reached the scene and removed the corpse and sent it for an autopsy. Several protesters then walked towards the chief minister’s house in Model Town and staged a sit-in there. They dispersed after they were assured that the suspect would be arrested soon.

The Kahna Circle DSP said that based on witnesses’ account an argument over parking of a vehicle in front of Haji Shafiq’s stall had led to the shooting. He said Shafiq had apparently asked the workers to move a vehicle away from his stall. He had opened fire at them on their refusal to do so, he said. He said  a team had been formed to track down the suspect.
