PESHAWAR:
Representatives of the Government Employees Coordination Council (GECC) threatened to quit working if the Town-II nazim does not evacuate the industrial department office by January 15. The secretary for local government (LG) Syed Jamaluddin Shah assured GECC President Muhammad Aslam Khan in a meeting on Friday that the matter will soon be resolved.

“The Town-II nazim along with other members took over the industrial department office building a few days ago and locked it forcefully,” Aslam told The Express Tribune. He said the then K-P governor Iftikhar Hussain Shah allotted the industrial department office to Town-II nazim from 2002 to 2005 only.

“They do not have any right to take over the building which is in use by us now,” said Aslam. He added they have informed LG officials about the matter and the LG secretary said they will take the issue up with the chief minister and resolve it soon.

GECC representatives also issued a letter to Chief Minister Pervez Khattak in which Minister for Industries Karim Khan, Chief Secretary Amjad Ali Khan, secretary and director for industries, commerce and technical education, Chief Capital Police Officer Mubarak Zeb and city district nazim Muhammad Asim Khan were also addressed.

Muhammad Asim told The Express Tribune the Town-II office will temporarily remain at the industrial department office situated in a government printing press building and later moved to a new building on Pajjagi Road. He added the task has been assigned to Additional Deputy Commissioner Peshawar Irshad Sodhar. This was decided at a meeting on Thursday where Shah, the city district nazim, local council board director and Peshawar deputy commissioner were present.
