Responding to a petition in the Sindh High Court alleging that SSGC has diverted 50 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) of gas to Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), Abbasi said that he has not violated the order of the court passed on October 8, 2010. “SSGC does not sell gas to any agency other than the ones in its own territory.”
He denied that SSGC sold any gas to SNGPL and also said that no illegal supply was made to the Karachi Electric Supply Company.
“SSGC does not have enough gas to meet the 276 mmcfd demand,” Abbasi said and reiterated that the shortage in Karachi and less supply to KESC are due to reduced provision of gas from the fields.
He also submitted province-wise gas supply and consumption data for December 2010, according to which Punjab consumed 47 per cent of gas, Sindh consumed 40 per cent, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan consumed five and eight per cent respectively.
The petitioners counsel, Barrister Abid Zuberi, however contested the figures and sought time to submit a reply. He said that details provided to the prime minister and to the court differ from each other.
