Furniture, clothes, electronic appliances, Rs100,000 in cash and jewellery weighing 62.5 grammes were destroyed
MANSEHRA:
A house was gutted, destroying belongings worth hundreds of thousands of rupees in a hilly area of Karmang union council in Mansehra, on Thursday, a police official told The Express Tribune.
Police quoted Khushal Khan of Khun Shakoora village as saying he was having dinner with his family in the kitchen when they saw smoke coming out of one of the six bedrooms.
He ran towards the room to investigate but the flames had engulfed the entire room as well as five others.
Furniture, clothes, electronic appliances, Rs100,000 in cash and jewellery weighing 62.5 grammes were destroyed.
Khushal said he tried to extinguish the fire with the help of locals but to no avail. The complainant estimated a loss of Rs5 million.
Reports of such incidents from these areas are common, during winter especially, as the houses are made of mud, and when families light up the fireplace, the fire often engulfs entire rooms. However, no loss of life was reported from this particular incident.
