KARACHI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has welcomed the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) initiative of holding a day-night final of the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy.

The final between HBL and PIA will make history as it would be the first time that a first-class match would be played under lights in Pakistan.

In a message to the PCB, the ICC General Manager Cricket David Richardson has praised the board, saying that the initiative shows intention of the PCB to promote the longer version of the game.

“This concept has been trialed in other countries and it is part of our wider policy of investigating the possibility of introducing day-night Test matches,” said Richardson. “We are very pleased with how this trial is to be implemented and we will be very interested in the results.”

Meanwhile, the PCB’s Director General Javed Miandad has said that the final is an experiment and it would be continued if it would provide good results.

“It is an experiment to attract  a large crowd and make the longer version exciting. Any change if it proves good for the sport, the players and the fans should be implemented.”

The final would be played with a pink or a yellow ball, the choice to be agreed upon by both captains after a practice session ahead of the final.
