Winter wedding jitters
Survive the flu this festive season
Survive the flu this festive season
The magic that winter brings with itself is very romantic. No wonder it gets packed with so many weddings and engagement ceremonies. The cool weather and school holidays make it the ideal time for all the wedding shenanigans we love. Unfortunately, too many of us succumb to the inevitable winter flu and there is nothing worse than having to attend an elaborate wedding in your glittery formals but with a runny nose. If you want to look and feel upbeat even when you have a flu, follow these simple steps and you will be good to go.
Make hot steam your best friend: With a blocked nose and subsequent headache, trying to keep your cool can be tough. To avoid this, boil a pot of water and keep your head over it, holding a towel atop for about 10 minutes. Take the steam at least an hour before the event and you will walk out with nothing to worry about.
Pamper yourself: The best way you can help yourself is by taking as much rest as possible. Get an appointment at a nearby spa and relax your senses. You can also create a home sauna by dipping a piece of net cloth in coconut oil and wrapping it around your shower. Turn on the hot water tap and see your washroom turn into a make-shift sauna.
Cover the flu-face: Your eyes will most probably get puffy and your nose will turn red. For some people, skin dryness becomes a problem, owing to the dehydration. But to avoid looking sick, you can try some innovative make-up hacks that will take you from feverish to fabulous. These include:
De-puffing your eyes with tea bags. Lie down with your head propped up slightly and place two cold and wet teabags over your eyes for about 15 minutes.
Using lotion-treated tissues to prevent red noses. You’re bound to be blowing your nose a lot so it is best to opt for moisturising tissues instead of the regular facial ones. This will also prevent chaffing or irritation around the area.
Layering up with moisturiser. Skip your regular foundation and face powder since it can make you look too caked if you’re dehydrated. For some natural-looking coverage, top your moisturiser with mineral foundation which will conceal imperfections and even out your skin without drying it out. In fact, start with an application of face primer before you put on any make-up as this will add hours of staying power to your make-up.
