Catch me if you can: Officers collect bounty after nabbing wanted criminals

Arrests were made through joint efforts of CTD, MI, IB.

PESHAWAR: A ceremony was held at Central Police Office on Wednesday to distribute monetary awards to officers of the counter-terrorism department (CTD), stated a handout issued by the CPO. The officers were rewarded in recognition of their efforts to arrest wanted militants with a bounty on their heads. CTD DIG Salahuddin Khan briefed the IGP about the performance of various officers.

During the ceremony, Rs12.8 million was distributed among 14 officers who received the head money on behalf of their teams for successfully nabbing 20 notorious militants. The arrest of these proclaimed offenders led to tracing of 45 cases of terrorism successfully.

The most prominent proclaimed offenders arrested include Gul Rauf and Qari Rashid who had bounties fixed of Rs2 million and Rs1 million respectively. Rauf was involved in five different attacks on security forces, police personnel and public places in Bannu.



The most wanted militants, namely Atiqur Rehman and Hazrat Ali, who were involved in a brutal attack on police and civilians in Peshawar have also been arrested. Another hardened militant, Imdadullah alias Farooq Alam, involved in nine different cases of attacks on police, security forces and civilians in Mardan, was also tracked down and arrested.

Other militants who were arrested include Junaid, Abdur Rehman, Anwar, Mustaqim, Shah Behram, Noor Wali alias Noor Ali, Taj Malook alias Ali Hassan, Bakht Jamal and Naseem Shah. The government had announced Rs0.5 million each as head money for all nine offenders.

CTD, Military Intelligence and the Intelligence Bureau collaborated over these arrests, according to the handout. The IGP thanked representatives of the various intelligence agencies for playing a pivotal role in apprehending militants and thwarting their nefarious designs.

In his address to the officers, the IGP appreciated their work, dedication and courage and voiced confidence in the CTD. He advised them to conduct a thorough investigation before charging and arresting someone for a crime. He further emphasised court cases should be followed up so the arrested miscreants are convicted and given their due punishments.
