PESHAWAR:
Rescue 1122 received more fake calls during 2015 than in any other year, Rescue 1122 personnel say. Even with so many incidents of terrorism and natural calamities, many people continue to play with Rescue 1122 and use the service irresponsibly.

According to the document available with The Express Tribune, the department received 307,832 irrelevant calls between January 1, 2015 and December 31, 2015. The department also received 18,387 fake calls and responded to 51 of them.

Year of the quake

The year 2015 also saw a lot of crime and accidental damages in K-P. The province was hit by one of the strongest earthquakes with a magnitude of 7.5. Over 200 people reportedly died in the damage and destruction caused by the temblor. Rescue 1122 responded to 1,490 reports where people were injured as a result of the quake.

As per the document, the teams responded to 12,126 calls for road accidents, 449 for fire incidents, 51 calls received for building collapses, 38 for explosions and bomb blasts, 249 crime calls, including violence, bullet injuries and robberies, 181 calls for drowning cases, and 8,297 medical emergency calls across the province.

The paramedics of rescue 1122 are given special training by instructors of other cities every month on how to deal with victims of natural calamities, accidents, terrorism and crime incidents, and to provide immediate medical aid.

Patients rescued

Around 2,809 patients received first aid on the spot, and over 8,464 patients were hospitalised soon after the incident occurred. About 103 people were found dead at the crime scene and were taken to the hospitals while 305 people died after arriving at the hospitals.

Rescue 1122 Spokesperson Bilal Ahmad Faizi said the Rescue 1122 service was one of the greatest initiatives taken by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government since 2010 and has improved a lot over the time.
