Year-end round up: Heinous crimes go up in 2010
A total of 6,976 cases were registered in 2010 against 6,515 in 2009 in Abbottabad District.

Heinous crimes like attempted murder, rape, abduction, armed robbery and burglary cases increased in Abbottabad District during 2010. Overall there was also a slight increase in the total number of crimes recorded in the 11 police stations of the district. A total of 6,976 cases were registered in 2010 against 6,515 in 2009.
While the number of kidnapping cases dropped from 34 in 2009 to 17, the cases of kidnapping for ransom remained steady at five.
However the number of abduction cases rose more than five times from 13 in 2009 to 89 in 2010.
The number of assaults on police dropped from 20 to six, while assaults on other government officials rose from four in 2009 to nine in 2010.
The number of non-fatal accidents reduced from 110 to 83. A total of 39 fatal accidents were registered in 2010, compared with 28 in 2009. Police also recovered 81 rifles, 427 shot guns, 635 revolvers, 21 daggers and 34,955 rounds during 2010.
During 2009, 59 people were murdered in different areas of the district, while in 2010 the figures dropped to 53. Cases of attempted murder went up to 112 from 80.
Assault cases rose from 213 to 254, adultery from 10 to 26 and eight cases of sodomy were registered against five in 2009.
The total number of burglaries was 77 in 2010, while 24 robberies were registered in 2010, against 11 in 2009.
