LAHORE:
Some religious organisations welcomed the new year by arranging prayers for peace and prosperity.
Tanzim Ittehad-i-Ummat Pakistan (TIUP) and Jamia Naeemia students organised a ceremony in this regard at Charing Cross that continued until the start of the new year.
A large number of women and children lit candles and spread rose petals at the venue.
TIUP chairman Muhammad Ziaul Haq Naqshbandi said the organisation would try to build Pakistan in line with the vision of the Quaid-i-Azam and Allama Iqbal. “We will lead our lives according to the teachings of Islam. We will spread the message of love, cooperation and solidarity in society and will discourage extremism.”
He said the TIUP would play its role for the country’s progress.
Naqshbandi encouraged the participants to make new year resolutions so that they could play their role as responsible citizens. “You should raise a voice against bribery, corruption and lawlessness. You should play your role to rid the country of terrorism,” he said.
Jamia Naeemia head Muhammad Raghib Naeemi prayed for forgiveness of all the participants. He also prayed for a peaceful Pakistan.
Neelam Ijaz, one of the participants, stressed the need for spending lives according to Islam and developing harmony with modern technology.
UC 87 chairman-elect Seth Muhammad Ashfaq said, “We should be aware of anti- Pakistan elements.”
