Balochistan: Three-day anti-polio drive to kick off from January 11

Dr Rehman added that 55,085 children of Afghan refugees will also be vaccinated during the campaign

A three-day anti-polio campaign will kick off on January 11 throughout Balochistan covering 30 districts. At least 2,472,616 children below the age of five will be administered anti-polio vaccine.


Coordinator of the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), Dr Syed Saifur Rehman, said 7 polio cases were reported in Balochistan in 2015.


When asked for more information on the campaign he stated that “all security arrangements have been concluded”. He further stated that there are three high risk districts, namely, Quetta, Qila Abdullah and Pishin.


Dr Rehman also said that 2.4 million children under five years of age will be targeted to be vaccinated during the three-day campaign and 6603 mobile teams, 796 fixed-site and 321 transit points will perform their duties.


He added that 55,085 children of Afghan refugees will also be vaccinated during the campaign.
