Gas: Five-day supply assured to textile industry

All Pakistan Textile Mills Association says shortage can be met through LNG import.

LAHORE:
The textile sector is important for the country’s economy with the potential to achieve $25 billion export target, said Minister for Textile Industry Muhammad Farooq Saeed Khan.

He was talking to the media after meeting office-bearers of the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma) on Monday.

In the meeting, Aptma officials protested against gas outages in Punjab, saying that the shortage was only 15 per cent in the country which could be met through import of liquefied natural gas (LNG). They urged the government not to curtail gas supply to the industry, as it earns foreign exchange for the country.

Khan assured Aptma of five-day gas supply to the industry in Punjab and said that a textile act was in the pipeline and would soon be tabled in the National Assembly. On the production of cotton, he said that had there been no floods, cotton production would have been higher.
