Police inaction: Relatives of murdered man protest
The protesters dispersed after CIA SP Umar Virk assured them of action against those identified in the complaint
LAHORE:
Dozens of relatives of a man killed earlier in the week in front of his house in Millat Park staged a demonstration on Sunday accusing the policemen of not taking action against the killers.
The protesters gathered in front of the Punjab Assembly on The Mall and blocked the road for traffic for almost three hours. They chanted slogans against the police. They said the police were reluctant to take action in the matter because the suspects were influential people. Muhammad Arshad, an elder brother of deceased Muhammad Ijaz, said Ijaz and his other brother Muhammad Ali were decorating the front wall of the house with neon lights when the suspects had opened fire on them.
Ijaz had died on the spot. Ali had suffered bullet wounds and was taken to a hospital.
On Sunday, he, too, was brought to the demonstration on a stretcher. The protesters dispersed after CIA SP Umar Virk assured them of action against those identified in the complaint. The road block caused severe inconvenience to the commuters. Traffic on The Mall was diverted to adjacent roads.
