PESHAWAR:

A lady health worker (LHW), who was raped in August, has appealed to IGP Nasir Durrani for protection and has also demanded her case be referred to the crime branch for further investigation.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, the LHW, who hails from Nowshera, said four months have passed and officials at Akbarpura police station have not registered her case.

“On September 18, police registered a case of robbery instead of rape, which is unfair,” she said. “The police official [who registered the case] did not mention in the FIR that I had been sexually assaulted.” The official also asked her not to mention the involvement of police.

The LHW said a five-member gang, including two men in police uniform, barged into her house at midnight on August 28 and raped her. Prior to the incident, she received threats from Ajab Khan Afridi, her tenant.

“Afridi had escaped from Central Prison Bannu during April 2012 jailbreak,” she said. “He used to threaten me and advise me against vaccinating children against polio.”Afridi is currently behind bars.

However, documents available with The Express Tribune suggest the Police Access Service of the central police issued a letter to the LHW and assured her that her case would be handed over to the crime branch. In the letter, the IGP said the case would be investigated if the LHW is not satisfied by the report filed by the police official.
