SEVEN-DAY DEADLINE: ECP tells independents to join a party

According to electoral rules, 2013, those elected as independents can join a political party within seven days

ISLAMABAD:
Independent candidates who were elected in the second phase of the local government elections in Sindh have a week’s time to join a political party of their choice. The vote supervisory body on Saturday notified the results for the districts of the province that went to the polls in the second of the three-phased LG elections held on November 19. According to electoral rules, 2013, those elected as independents can join a political party within seven days of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) officially notifying the results of the polls. Those who do not seek affiliation with a party within the stipulated time will be treated as independents for the rest of their tenure.
