PM directs provinces to ensure safe environment for children

Provincial chief secretaries directed to implement recommendations made by NCHRP on child rights

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif directed on Thursday the provincial governments to put in place the requisite policy and operational framework to ensure a safer environment for children to prevent recurrence of Kasur-like incidents.

According to a statement, provincial chief secretaries have been directed to ensure implementation of the recommendations made by the National Commission for Human Rights Pakistan (NCHRP).

In the wake of Kasur scandal, the NCHRP has undertaken a detailed analysis of incidents of child abuse and exploitation.

The commission has recommended the provincial governments to devise a district-level plan of action, while LEAs and social welfare departments should be sensitised about the matters. A public awareness campaign is in collaboration with relevant stakeholders has also been suggested.
