Five terrorism suspects were killed while two others managed to escape in a shootout with police in Dera Ghazi Khan on Wednesday.
Police officials said the men were affiliated with the Commander Umer Group of Tehreek-i-Taliban. They said two grenades and three pistols were recovered from the scene.
A spokesman of the Counter-Terrorism Department said they had stopped a vehicle for search when it was entering the Punjab from Balochistan via Wodor. He said men in the vehicle fired shots at the police. He said five men were gunned down in the ensuing exchange while two managed to escape.
The CTD spokesman said the men had planned to attack Rabiul Awwal processions. The deceased were identified as Nauman Alam, Ilyas Ghazi, Aijaz Khush-hal, Haider Badshah and Mumtaz Iqbal.
They were residents of Bajaur Agency.
Police said the bodies had been sent to the morgue for autopsy and a case in this regard had been registered.
