KARACHI:
Little did Tanseer Dar know that a brief trip to his agricultural lands in Muzaffargarh, near Multan, would eventually take the shape of a rock concert-cum-Karavan reunion gig.

“I was in Muzaffargarh when I received a call from Asad [Ahmed] asking me to attend his performance with Ali Zafar in Multan,” said Dar.

The former Karavan guitarist, Asad Ahmed, who plays as a session musician with Ali Zafar was performing at a school in the city. Quietly sitting among the audience, Dar was asked to join the duo on stage.

“This was not pre-planned at all, and it was out of nowhere that they asked me to join them on stage,” he exclaimed.

No stranger to performing live on stage, Tanseer sang some of Karavan’s most popular tracks including Aagay Hi Aagay, alongside Ahmed and Ali Zafar. “I really enjoyed performing with them. I’ve performed with Asad many times but it was a refreshing and exciting experience to share the stage with Ali Zafar,” shared Dar.

Coke Studio: Pulling the strings tight

While Dar warned fans not to read too much into this impromptu reunion, he did reveal the band was mulling the possibility of recording a few tracks together in the future. “Asad is really busy playing for Ali – they’re performing around 18 shows. So once he gets free, we might just hit the studio and release a few singles around next year,” he said.

After making music for 14 years, Karavan disbanded in July 2011 due to individual commitments of the band members. It was a mutual agreement between the members who also included bassist Sameer Ahmed and drummer Alan Smith.
