FAISALABAD:

Lawyers in Faisalabad have expanded the scope of their protest in favour of a Lahore High Court (LHC) bench in the city, District Bar Association president Malik Ayub Sialvi announced on Monday.

“We have intensified our token strike for pressing the authorities to set up the bench early. Lawyers in the city boycotted courts on Monday,” Sialvi said.

The lawyers had earlier not been appearing before courts two days a week (Friday and Saturday). Now they have announced that would also boycott courts on Mondays.

“They will also stop working after 12 noon on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays,” Sialvi said. He said an LHC bench was a legitimate right of the people of Faisalabad.

He said several government leaders had promised to fulfil their demand but they had done nothing in this regard.

“We will continue to stage protest demonstrations until the bench is set up in Faisalabad,” he said.

Litigants faced great inconvenience owing to the protest.
