Big Bash League: Adelaide down Perth by five wickets
Record second successive win to go second on points table
Adelaide Strikers defeated Perth Scorchers by four wickets in the Big Bash League at the WACA Ground in Perth on Monday.
Perth, who had won the toss, elected to bat and got a solid start through Adam Voges and Shaun Marsh, who made 45 (not out) and 47 respectively to build a strong foundation for the home side. The team, however, failed to capitalise on their efforts and laboured to set a 151-run target.
Ben Laughlin and Adil Rashid claimed two wickets each for Adelaide, while Michael Neser and Travis Head dismissed one batsman apiece.
Big Bash League: Finch stars as Melbourne down Brisbane
In reply, a 42-run knock by Mahela Jayawardene and significant 38-run and 22-run knocks by Alex Ross and Head respectively ensured that the visitors reach the target comfortably with five balls and six wickets to spare.
Joel Paris and David Willey claimed two scalps apiece for the home side, while Nathan Coulter-Nile and Andrew Tye dismissed one batsman each.
Rashid was declared the man of the match for his 2-21 off four overs.
Big Bash League: Hussey rolls back the years with unbeaten 80
Hamstring injury woes over, says Khawaja
Usman Khawaja said on Monday he was confident his recurring hamstring problems were behind him as the batsman works towards a recall to the Australia team for the second Test against the West Indies.
Khawaja returned from a spell on the sidelines in Sunday’s Big Bash League Twenty20 match, scoring an explosive 109 off 70 balls for the Sydney Thunder in their one-run win over the Melbourne Stars.
“I’m very happy I got through the game. I feel really good today,” Khawaja told reporters. “Just normal general soreness, the hammies feel really good.”
