Mehmoodul Hasan has been elected president of the Karachi Bar Association (KBA) for the year 2016, according to unofficial results.


Polling for the 69th KBA elections was held on the premises of the city courts on Saturday. South’s District and Sessions Judge Imdad Hussain Khoso volunteered as the chief election commissioner and 20 other judges acted as presiding officers.

The main contest, like the previous year, was between Hasan and incumbent KBA chief Naeemuddin Qureshi.

Five candidates contended for the post of general secretary out of which Haq Nawaz Talpur emerged successful. Moreover, Shujat Ali Khan was elected as the vice-president, Mumtaz Ali Khan as finance secretary, Rizwan Saeed as joint secretary and Afsar Ali as the librarian. Eleven others were elected as managing committee members.

A total of 41 candidates vied for the 17 posts of the bar assocation. Meanwhile, in the Malir bar election, Ijaz Khan Bangash clinched the post of president and Rao Zahid was elected as the general secretary.
