Rangers move court against likely prosecutor change in Dr Asim's case

A day earlier, the high court had rejected the Rangers plea for action against the police IO, DSP Altaf Hussain

KARACHI:

The controversy surrounding former federal minister Dr Asim Hussain’s alleged role in abetting terrorists has further deepened following a court appeal by the paramilitary Rangers against the likely change of the special public prosecutor.

Another plea was filed by the paramilitary force filed on Saturday with the Sindh High Court (SHC) seeking restraining order against change of the special public prosecutor in case relating to ‘harbouring and treating’ terrorists lodged by them against Dr Asim Hussain the owner Ziauddin Hospital chain.

A day earlier, the high court had rejected the Rangers plea for action against the police investigation officer, DSP Altaf Hussain, who had removed terrorism charges against Dr Asim and released him ¬ a close aide of former president Asif Ali Zardari.

In the petition, the provincial home secretary, the IG Police, the Prosecutor General Sindh, the DIG West Feroze Shah and DSP Altaf Hussain were named as respondents.
