’Tis the season: Christmas marked at university

Qureshi says Christian community integral part of nation’s social fabric

A colourful event was organised on Saturday at the Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) to mark Christmas.


In this connection, a function to cut a Xmas cake was held at the lawns of the VC office for varsity’s employees and their families. A large number of Christian employees and their families were present on the occasion and praised the university’s administration for organising the celebrations.

LCWU Acting Vice Chancellor Uzma Qureshi and senior management sliced the cake and distributed gifts among employees’ children. The management wished the staff and their families during the ceremony.

While wishing the participants, she said the Christian community was an integral part of the society. She praised the services rendered by them. Qureshi said the employees and their families were part of the LCWU family and their role for the varsity was commendable. “We stand shoulder-to-shoulder with you to mark Christmas,” she said.

The acting vice chancellor said the university was fully aware of the needs of its employees. In this connection, she said, a Rs1 million-staff welfare fund had been set up. She said all members of the society had to play their role for the nation to progress. She said education was the greatest weapon for any country to be equipped with. Qureshi said a country could only make a mark through education. She said the contribution of the Christian community had helped the cause of education at the LCWU. For this, she thanked the varsity’s Christian employees.

Irshad Khokhar, a Christian employee of the LCWU, said he was overjoyed to see that the institution was marking a religious festival of his. He said his children had enjoyed the celebrations at the varsity and thanked all the staff who came to wish the Christian community and organised the event. He also praised the institution of the welfare fund.
