KARACHI: Civil society members have filed a complaint with the Karachi police against the Pesh Imam of Sultan Mosque. The imam in question allegedly issued a decree against Pakistan People's Party (PPP) MNA Sherry Rehman and termed her a non-Muslim.

Civil society members alleged that the imam also lauded Mumtaz Qadri, the man behind the assassination of Governor Punjab Salmaan Taseer during a Friday sermon.

The complaint was registered at the Darakhsan Police station, on behalf of Rehman, Salmaan Taseer's son Shan Taseer and a journalist Ali Chishti.

Speaking to Express News, Chishti said civil society members fear for Sherry Rehman's life following the murder of the Punjab Governor.

He asserted that they will expose evidence against the Pesh Imam in a press conference. The civil society members also stressed that they were proud to be Muslims but rejected murdering people in the name of Islam.
