A Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz member of the district council in Haripur was killed on court premises in the early hours of Saturday.
According to reports, Javed Khan Jadoon died on the spot after he was shot at point blank range.
Under fire: Two LG candidates targeted
"Unidentified men opened fire at Jadoon as he was leaving the court following a hearing in a murder case," police officials and eyewitnesses confirmed.
"No FIR has been lodged thus far," police officials told The Express Tribune.
Outside the DPO office: PML-N's district councillor arrested for aerial firing
A resident of Basti Buland Khan, Jadoon was earlier arrested for his alleged involvement in the murder of a Toru Dhok resident, Bilal. He was, however, recently released on bail by the Abbottabad bench of Peshawar High Court.
