High treason case: FIA to complete treason case probe in 30 days

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has sought another 30 days to complete the inquiry of the high treason case against former president Pervez Musharraf.

The special court had ordered the reinvestigation of the case and directed FIA to record fresh statements of Musharraf, Justice (retd) Abdul Hameed Dogar, ex-premier Shaukat Aziz and former law minister Zahid Hamid.The tribunal sought the agency’s report on December 17.

On Thursday however, the FIA stated the defence secretary had been requested through a reminder to provide documents related to the proclamation of emergency. The agency said the joint investigation team (JIT) decided to first record the testimony of Musharraf and wrote a letter to the former military ruler on December 10. He was told that the JIT intended to record his statement on December 14.

Musharraf’s staff, however, replied that he was not available on December 14 and confirmed his availability on December 22.


The FIA team will later record the statement of Hamid, Dogar and Aziz. The team has also requested the cabinet division secretary for providing certified copies of inward/outward diary registers of November 3, 2007 and postal movement register of that day and the next date.

Reinvestigation of Musharraf treason case ordered

A letter has also been written to the law ministry for provision of the certified copies of the documents identified by the FIA investigation team.

On December 10, the team identified more documents required for the probe and a letter was also written to the principal secretaries of the PM and president for getting Aziz’s letter regarding the security situation. The team had assessed the supplementary statement of then special secretary Justice (retd) Ajam Mian was also required. His statement was recorded on December 15.
