KARACHI:

The residents of Jamshed Quarters, PIB Colony and Lasbela staged a protest demonstration against the chronic water shortage in the area. The protesters burnt tyres and blocked the road, which resulted in a severe traffic jam on MA Jinnah Road and Jail Road. Talking to The Express Tribune, Karachi Water and Sewerage Board spokesperson Nazir Mateen said that the water shortage occurred due to a pipeline that was damaged a few days earlier. "The pipeline has been repaired so the complains of water shortage in several areas will be solved," he said. The water shortage is being reported from several areas of the city since an 84-inch diameter pipeline burst in Gulshan-e-Iqbal on Saturday. Following the protest, the traffic jam continued for several hours. "The situation normalised after the protest finished," said District Central traffic SP Saadat.
