Remembering martyrs: Walks, candlelight vigils across Punjab to honour the martyrs of APS

Several events were held in Bahawalpur district to commemorate the martyrs of the Peshawar army school attack.

Army Public School, Bahawalpur, and Army Junior Public School students held a walk. Later, separate ceremonies were held at both the schools.

At the start of the day, special prayers were said for the children who died in the terrorist attack on the APS Peshawar. A minute’s silence was observed in the schools. Candles were lit on memorial monument and later flowers were placed by the students and teachers.

At Bahawalpur Garrison, army officers, school teachers, students and parents offered prayers for the victims.

Faisalabad

The first anniversary of the martyrs of Army Public School (APS) Peshawar was observed in Faisalabad district.

The Faisalabad Development Trust held prayers outside the commissioner’s office for the martyrs. Divisional Commissioner Captain (r) Nasim Nawaz, DCO Noorul Amin Mengal, CPO Afzal Ahmad Kausar, Assistant Commissioner Mehr Shafqatullah, Faisalabad Art Council Resident Director Tariq Jawed, DPS Principal Shahid Mehmood, Chaudhry Tariq Nazir and Riaz Hussain Anjum attended the event.


Trust chairman Syed Omer Nazar Shah said a monument would be built to commemorate the APS martyrs.

Nawaz said that the Peshawar School carnage was the worst terrorist attack in the country’s history. Mengal said that the district administration was observing a Shuhada Week.

“The martyrs of the Peshawar school carnage are our heroes. They have united the whole nation against terrorists,” he said. A candlelight vigil was also held.

Several associations of traders in Faisalabad also offered prayers for the APS students. DCO Noorul Amin Mengal, MPA Haji Khalid Saeed, Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Chaudhry Muhammad Nawaz and Anjuman-i-Tajiran general secretary Mehmood Alam Jatt participated in the main event.

Mengal said that the martyrs of Peshawar School had laid down the foundation for a bright and prosperous Pakistan. Mengal inaugurated a blood bank at the Faisalabad district headquarters hospital by donating blood himself.

Medical Superintendent Mukhtar Randhawa, Dr Bilal Ahmad and Red Crescent Society members Haji Abdur Rashid, Haji Muhammad Ramazan, Dr Falik Geer and Dr Sultan Ahmad were present.
